Jestin Porter only played two minutes in his Summer League debut, yet he still found a way to make those two minutes count.
The former Clemson guard scored five points on 2-for-2 shooting and added an assist as the Memphis Grizzlies rolled past the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-74 in Salt Lake City Summer League action. For a player fighting for more professional looks, that short-burst efficiency is something a coach praises.
Porter checked in and did exactly what the coach ordered. zero turnovers, a 100% shot rate, a quick five points, a made free throw, and a plus-four in his tiny two-minute window of action. In Summer League, where half the floor is trying to prove it belongs somewhere, sometimes the best thing you can do is look composed when your number finally gets called.
The Grizzlies blasted Oklahoma City who has a solid roster with college stars like Iowa's Bennett Stirtz and Michigan's Aday Mara from the jump, winning every quarter and turning the game into a 37-point runaway. Third overall pick in the NBA draft, Cameron Boozer, formerly of Duke, was one of the headliners for Memphis finishing with 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists in 24 minutes. Taylor Hendricks, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and Javon Small also helped push the Grizzlies’ offense into cruise control.
Porter joined the Grizzlies for Summer League after one season at Clemson, where he led the Tigers in made threes and steals. Before that, he built a strong résumé at Middle Tennessee with back-to-back All-CUSA seasons.
Porter now gets a chance to showcase his game in Bluff City and prove he belongs in the organization’s plans, whether that leads to a training camp invite, a G League opportunity, or another professional path once the regular season arrives.
With this performance on the shelf now, it should hopefully open up more opportunities to see more minutes down the line than just two in the next fixture against the Chicago Bulls.
