This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Bettis discusses his participation in this year's American Century Championship, which will take place July 10-12 at Edgewood Tahoe and air on NBC and Peacock. He discussed Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love's chances of excelling in his rookie season ahead of the Week 11 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"Nah, not really. Nobody has (seen Bettis' new golf swing ahead of the American Century Championship). I haven't played with any of the guys yet, so it's still a secret weapon right now."
The Chiefs will host the Cardinals in Week 11 this season and get an opposing look at Love, the third overall draft pick out of Notre Dame. In 2025, Love rushed 199 times for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. He also tallied 27 receptions for 280 yards and three receiving touchdowns, earning finalist status for the Heisman Trophy.
"You got an organization (Arizona Cardinals) historically that hasn't really helped young superstar players, I mean, you look at Marvin Harrison Jr." said Bettis, "They're not showcasing these young talented players that they have, but that's not just now, it's historically you go back, I think Larry Fitzgerald's, probably the only guy that you can name that had a career from the beginning on, and so I think he can be spectacular. The Cardinals have to unlock him and let him be spectacular. If they do that, they're going to have one special football player."
The annual tournament awards $750,000 in prize money, much of which the celebrity players donate to local and national charities. Over the years, over $8 million has been donated to non-profit causes. Network television exposure on NBC/Peacock and a first-place prize of $150,000 make the celebrity tournament one of the most prestigious in golf.
