NEW YORK – A brutal stretch became even worse for the Yankees early Monday night.

Already trailing 7-0 in the fourth inning to the Detroit Tigers, second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was forced out of the game due to a collision in shallow right field.

In pursuit of Hao-Yu Lee’s pop fly, caught by Dominguez, the right side of Chisholm’s head struck Dominguez’s extended left arm.

Chisholm stayed on the ground for a few minutes as the Yankees’ athletic training staff attended to him and eventually helped him to his feet and off the field.

Defensively, Oswaldo Cabrera replaced Chisholm at second base. Chisholm was presumably being tested for a concussion.

Earlier in the inning, Chisholm banged his left knee and writhed in pain for a bit, limping around after Kevin McGonigle took second base on a throw home after his two-run single.

On Sunday night, Chisholm was ejected by plate umpire Todd Tichenor for throwing his helmet after disputing a swinging third strike in the sixth inning of the Yanks' eventual 10-inning loss at Boston.

That completed a four-game sweep by the Red Sox, and the Yanks arrived home in second place, with seven losses in their last nine games.

Chisholm was 0-for-1 with a strikeout against Detroit starter Casey Mize on Monday. Across 25 games in June, Chisholm is batting .177 (14-for-79) with six homers and 10 stolen bases in 11 attempts.
