The Deacs have 4th loss of the offseason, with freshman PG Jaylen Cross entering the transfer portal.

Cross was a late addition to the 2025 recruiting class last season after de-committing from Charlotte in April. The 6-4 Greensboro native was rated as a 3-star prospect, but really didn’t get a chance to show what he could do this season. Cross played just 67 total minutes this season over 13 games and scored 24 points on 42% shooting from the floor—only 6 of those points came in ACC play. While he didn’t see the court very often, I always felt like Cross hustled incredibly well and gave 110% effort whenever he did get playing time. His best game of the season came in the loss to Vanderbilt, in which he finished with 7 points on 2-3 shooting, 1 assists, and 2 rebounds in 13 minutes.
This is not a make or break loss for the Deacs, but it does highlight just how difficult it is in this era to keep and develop freshman when they aren’t getting to play.
Go Deacs.
