The iconic rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees has seemingly waned a bit over the last few years due to the Red Sox's recent struggles, causing some to wonder if the rivalry has lost its luster.
However, NBC's shocking TV ratings for their Sunday Night Baseball showdown on June 28 prove the rivalry still has plenty of juice.
According to NBC, the game averaged 4.0 million viewers on NBC and Peacock. That would be the most average viewers for a Sunday Night Baseball game in 15 years, since Yankees-Red Sox on Aug. 7, 2011.

The lofty ratings are even more impressive considering the game was relatively low stakes, taking place in late June with Boston mired in last place. The game didn't feature a marquee pitching matchup and was also lacking star power with Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Roman Anthony and others unavailable due to injury.
Those who tuned in were treated to a great game. Sonny Gray took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning, New York rallied in the ninth to tie the game, and Boston walked it off in 10 innings, completing a historic four-game sweep.
The two teams don't meet again until late August, at which point one or both may be embroiled in a tight playoff race.
