La Liga president Javier Tebas is in New York to watch the World Cup final and been asked whether Barcelona are back under the 1:1 rule.
Barcelona had been hoping to operate normally in the summer transfer window and have been fairly busy already. Robert Lewandowski has freed up space on the wage bill following his departure on the expiry of his contract.
The Catalans have also agreed a permanent deal for Ansu Fati to sign for Monaco, while Anthony Gordon has arrived from Newcastle and Karim Adeyemi is expected to be announced as a new Barca player shortly.
Tebas thinks that Barca’s transfer activity shows that the club are now operating under the 1:1 rule again.
“Yes, they’re under the 1:1 rule. Based on the deals they’ve completed, they have to be,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona are still hoping for more transfers this summer, with Julian Alvarez and Joao Cancelo the two players the club are keen to bring in.
There could also be some more exits before the window closes. Marc Casado and Roony Bardghji are two players being tipped to move on from the Camp Nou.
Barcelona are said to have been busy this summer as they expect to fall outside of the 1:1 rule again next year, largely because the club will have to move out of Camp Nou again when a new roof is installed on the stadium.
