Japan bounced back from a disappointing short program in figure skating to claim pair skating gold on Monday at the Milan/Cortina Winter Games on Monday.

Two-time world champions Miura Riku and Kihara Ryuichi were only fifth in the short program on Sunday, but they had a glistering free skating performance for a total score of 231.24 points and the gold medal.

The pair had already won team event silver at the 2026 Games.

Georgia's Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava claimed silver, while Germany had to settle for bronze after topping the short program.

Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin were flawless in the second half of the routine, but the German pair made too many mistakes in the first half and almost finished without a medal.
