Los Angeles Dodgers No. 10 prospect James Tibbs III capped off an unbelievable start to the season with the PCL’s Player of the Week award.
Tibbs played six games from March 30 to April 5, hitting five home runs—all of which were solo shots—and recording nine hits in 25 at-bats. His best game of the bunch came against the Las Vegas Aviators on April 4, where he had three home runs and went 4-for-5 in a loss.
The 23-year-old kicked off his hot start to the season before the 30th, though, as he had two home runs and eight RBIs in the first three games prior to the beginning of the week.
Through the first nine games of the season, Tibbs has a 336 wRC+ as well as an OPS near 2.000.

When Did James Tibbs III Come to the Dodgers?
Tibbs didn’t begin his career with the Dodgers, joining his career with the San Francisco Giants in 2024. His first season of professional baseball came in 2025, though it didn’t go as smoothly as he would have liked.
The Giants shipped Tibbs, along with a few other players, to the Boston Red Sox in the trade which brought Rafael Devers to the NL West. That wasn’t his last time moving, either, as the Red Sox then sent Tibbs along with outfield prospect Zach Ehrhard to the Dodgers in exchange for Dustin May.
Despite the rapid changes of scenery, Tibbs appears to be happy with the Dodgers and spoke about how he found his footing with LA.
“It definitely was hard,” Tibbs said. “I don’t think that I really realized that for a while. Mentally, I was fried. I just couldn’t find my footing.”
“…I don’t think I imagined in my wildest dreams I would get traded twice my first year of pro ball, much less traded twice at all. So for me it was a whirlwind of a year. I feel like I’m in a better spot mentally, physically, emotionally. I feel like I’m in a place where I have a foundation, can control the controllables and go from there.”
He got off to a good start upon joining the Dodgers, posting a .900 OPS with Double-A Tulsa in 36 games to close the season. He kept the ball rolling into spring training, posting a 1.053 OPS through 23 games in big league camp. That solid performance, of course, carried into the regular season.
