We've got a fullback. This guy is a flat out stud. Huge. Punishing. Shocked that the Lambs just re-signed him last year, and let him go this year. Check out Marshall Faulk's stats with/without Hodgins in the lineup.

I only hope this isn't a reason for Emmitt to come here. I want Marcell to benefit.

We just turned in to a running team. If we can build the defense, I don't care if every game is 14-9, as long as we win!

San Jose State.

Imagine the look on a 200 lb safety's face, when 6'1" 270 lbs shows up in the hole with Marcell right behind him!

Now THAT'S punishing.

Whether we want Smith or not

Emmitt Smith is going to find it hard to turn down a team who plays on natural grass, has fans of his in the Cardinal's own backyard so to speak, has a 271 pound full back blocking for him and has a line which is huge and headed by 'BIG".

I don't have the stats, but I saw a story on ESPN or something, a little while ago, that was about the Lambs letting him go, and how Marshall wanted him back. They had the stats, they were impressive, and at the time, he wasn't on our radar. I remember thinking how it would be great to have him, but at that time, the thought was, that the lambs were going to get him to stay.

He's certainly good but I think you're overestimating him. Hodgins was barely an afterthough coming out of San Jose State(I live in San Jose) and he was released so they could save a 750K roster bonus.

ACcording to ESPN Faulk averaged 5 YPC as the lone back, 4.7 in the I formation and 3.4 with split backs. So while I agree Hodgins is a good blocker, it doesn't show in Faulk's stats at all.

Not only is this a good signing for us - but it hurts the Rams. So you factor that into the equation and this is an excellent signing.

I suspect that was the stat of when Hodgins was out hurt to when he came back. The problem is his injury period was when the Rams started 0-5, Faulk was struggling, Warner was struggling and Faulk wasn't getting the ball enough, and their OL was in disarray.

When Hodgins came back the OL had stabilized, Bulger was playing and Faulk got the ball more. Yes Hodgins has something to do with all that but statisticaly Faulk average went up with Hodgins not on the field. THis is of course in part because in a one back teams often assume they will pass.

All I can say about Mr. Hodgins is this:

He is now our 6th linemen!

It's bad enough taking on a 300+lb linemen from a three-point stance, this guy is 270 with a running start!

If there is anykind of passing attack with the Cards this year, I see Shipp getting 1200+ yards with at least 10 TD's...

Having watched the Rams alot the last 2 seasons, I must say that Hodge brings good receiving skills out of the backfield as well.
