Jake Rogers penned a farewell to fans after learning the Detroit Tigers were designating him for assignment.
"Detroit… man, what can I say. These years with you have been some of the best of my life. This city and this organization have meant everything to me," he wrote. "From Chris Ilitch, to the front office, to the coaching and training staff, to my teammates, and of course the fans — you’ve all shown nothing but love and respect to me and my family.
"Thank you for welcoming a West Texas kid into the mitten and making it feel like home. Detroit will always have a place in my heart."
The roster move involving Rogers, 31, acquired in 2017 in a trade for Justin Verlander, was done to clear a spot on both the active roster and 40-man roster for Javier Báez. Rogers, who debuted in 2019, was the second-longest tenured Tiger after Wenceel Perez.
The Tigers will likely work to find a trade partner for Rogers before he gets to the waiver wire.
Rogers batted .197 with 47 home runs and 138 RBIs in 367 games during his career with the Tigers.
