Jake Rogers has delivered an emotional farewell to the Detroit Tigers, one day after the organization designated the veteran catcher for assignment.
Rogers posted a message thanking the Tigers, his teammates and Detroit fans for making the city feel like home during his six seasons with the club.
“Detroit… man, what can I say. These years with you have been some of the best of my life. This city and this organization have meant everything to me.
“From Chris Ilitch, to the front office, to the coaching and training staff, to my teammates, and of course the fans—you’ve all shown nothing but love and respect to me and my family.
“Thank you for welcoming a West Texas kid into the mitten and making it feel like home. Detroit will always have a place in my heart.

Detroit designated Rogers for assignment Tuesday when Javier Báez was activated from the injured list. The move ended Rogers’ spot on the active roster and created a seven-day window for the Tigers to trade him, place him on waivers or release him.
Rogers appeared in 362 games for Detroit, hitting 47 home runs with 138 RBIs. His offensive production was inconsistent, but his defense, game preparation and work with the pitching staff made him an important part of the Tigers clubhouse.
Tarik Skubal credited Rogers with helping guide him to his first Cy Young Award in 2024. Skubal also praised Rogers for holding him accountable on and off the field, offering a glimpse into the catcher’s value behind the scenes.
Rogers was batting .161 with three home runs and a .567 OPS this season when the Tigers made the move.
Baseball decisions are often cold, especially near the trade deadline. Rogers’ message showed that his connection to Detroit went far beyond his statistics or roster status.
Whether another organization claims him or the Tigers find a way to retain him, his post sounded like a player preparing for the end of his time in the Old English D.
Jake Rogers never became a star in Detroit, but he became trusted, respected and deeply connected to the Tigers’ pitching staff.
