Instead of trying to predict what he thinks the Jacksonville Jaguars will do in the 2025 NFL draft, Adam Rank of NFL.com put together a mock draft where he made his selections based on what each team should do.
"Instead of trying to forecast the future, I present my Mock Draft ... with a Twist, in which I advise the teams on what they should do when the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off," wrote Rank.
So, at pick No. 5, who did the Jaguars end up picking in this scenario? Well, Rank believes that the Jaguars should pick Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.
"Jags," wrote Rank, "you should be stockpiling game-wreckers for Trevor Lawrence, and putting Warren and Brian Thomas Jr. in the same lineup would seriously help him."
There have been more mocks recently--still not a lot--that have had Warren going to the Jaguars. And while perhaps not a popular pick, I get it.
This isn't a pressing need, but as Rank mentioned, signing Hunter Long and Johnny Mundt in free agency shouldn't stop the Jaguars from adding to this position, particularly if it's for Warren, a top prospect in the entire class, regardless of position.
In addition to that, one of the benefits of having 10 draft picks is that the Jaguars have the flexibility to go in a different direction early on, rather than feeling like they have to tackle a certain need right away.
Warren's ability to move around the formation and impact both the running and passing games makes him a very good fit for Liam Coen's offense, where the element of multiplicity, in order to throw a lot of different looks at opposing defenses, is important.
When an offense has a do-it-all tight end, that presence not only creates opportunities for that player to take advantage of, but he creates for others within the offense as well through the mismatches that are created and the attention that tight end can draw.
The need at tight end certainly isn't as pressing as it is at other positions, but when it comes to what Coen wants to accomplish schematically and taking some of the playmaking burden off of Trevor Lawrence's shoulders, this is a selection that I do believe makes sense.
