Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Chicago Bears’ QB Caleb Williams have a lot in common.
Both of them were star QBs at big-time programs, with Lawrence starring at Clemson and Williams starring at Oklahoma and then USC.
Both of them won big trophies in college, with Lawrence winning a national title and Williams a Heisman.
Both were surefire No. 1 picks in their respective draft classes, with Lawrence going to Jacksonville in 2021 and Williams to Chicago three years later, and both had the best seasons of their career last year. In Jacksonville, Lawrence played as well as any QB in the game down the stretch, throwing 15 touchdowns and just one interception in the Jags’ last six regular season games, all wins.
Williams built on a promising rookie season, ending with 27 touchdowns, seven interceptions and nearly 4,000 yards (the Bears are still the only franchise in league history without a 4,000-yard passer). Collectively, Jacksonville and Chicago each had big years in 2025, led by their quarterbacks. The Jags went from 4-13 to 13-4, and the Bears went from 5-12 to 11-6.
Both turnarounds were similar to the point where the league’s top insider noticed.
Jacksonville ended up falling to the Buffalo Bills in the wildcard round.
Chicago got a legendary come-from-behind win over the rival Green Bay Packers in the wildcard, then fell in a classic to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round.
Now, the question is what these teams can do for an encore. Jacksonville isn’t expected to repeat in the AFC South, with the Houston Texans being the favorites. The Bears also aren’t favorites to retain the North, with the Packers and Detroit Lions providing stiff competition, and the Minnesota Vikings possessing one of the league’s top players in receiver Justin Jefferson.
By the time these teams meet, the divisional picture will be much clearer than it is as we sit in August. It will also probably be much colder.
December in “The Windy City” is no picnic for anybody, let alone a warm-weather team.The Jaguars are 3-6 all-time in games where the weather is below 34 degrees, so there have been some struggles. But the game won’t necessarily be played in sub-30-degree cold. Last season, the Jags went to Denver in December, but the temperatures ended up being in the high 50s.
Whether that had anything to do with the Jags' win over the Broncos might never be known, but in any case, Lawrence vs. Williams should excite any football fan.
Jags-Bears is scheduled to kick off at 1 on FOX, with tickets going for as low as $177 per VividSeats.
