One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars entering head coach Liam Coen's second year at the helm is the new-look running back crew in the backfield.
With longtime starter Travis Etienne departing in free agency, Bhayshul Tuten looks like the new lead bell cow in the room, entering his second season in the NFL.
Throughout the offseason, various analysts and members of the coaching staff have had high praise for Tuten, with Coen being the most-recent.
"When he can get going and get downhill, I mean, he was 4.28 coming out. So he can fly. Now just go be you, like go do what got you here," Coen said in a recent interview. "Go be special, that's who you are. And we're definitely expecting Tuten to have a big year for us."
Tuten was Jacksonville's fifth-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft and displayed some flashes of brilliance when his number was called.
The former Virginia Tech standout recorded 83 carries for 307 yards and five touchdowns, adding 14 receptions for 79 yards and two additional scores.
Tuten's top performance of the regular season came in Jacksonville's dominant 35-6 showing against the Los Angeles Chargers, notching 74 yards and a score.
The Jaguars' rushing attack was on fire all day long, with Etienne adding two touchdowns and starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence scampering in to the endzone.
He also had a good game in Jacksonville's lone playoff game against the Buffalo Bills, using his four carries to generate 51 yards (12.8 YPC).
Roundtable's Jason Klingensmith recently reported that Pete Prisco of CBS Sports marked Tuten as a player with "star potential," noting his production in a limited capacity.
Tuten's speed and reliability in the receiving game is a perfect fit alongside the rest of Jacksonville's backfield committee, as LeQuint Allen Jr. and Chris Rodriguez are physical, point-of-contact runners.
Last season, Rodriguez recorded career highs in rushing yards (500) and touchdowns (6), serving as the Washington Commanders' third down and short yardage back. Rodriguez also showed great contact balance, ranking eighth in the league last year in average yards after contact with 3.46.
He reunites with Coen, who was the offensive coordinator during Rodriguez's time at Kentucky.
Rodriguez was one of the most accomplished players in Kentucky Football history, totaling 3,644 rushing yards in his career, third-most in program history. Under Coen, Rodriguez earned First-Team All-SEC honors, while rushing for 100 or more yards in nine straight games, a school record.
While Tuten will likely get the majority of the snaps, Rodriguez will be a nice switch-up in running style and level of physicality.
