The Jacksonville Jaguars are beginning voluntary offseason programs on Tuesday, April 8th.
The Jaguars, along with all the other teams that have a first-year head coach, are able to get a head start on offseason programs. Teams with returning head coaches can't begin offseason programs until a few days before the NFL draft.
Outside of mandatory minicamp, the offseason program that runs through early June is voluntary.
At this stage of the process, teams won't be on the practice field. According to NFL.com, activities during Phase I of offseason programs include meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehab.
As Liam Coen described during the NFL's annual league meeting last week, with this being the first time that the entire team--or close to it--has the opportunity to be together in an organized fashion, the emphasis will be on introducing the new offensive and defensive schemes, along with establishing the culture that he wants to have throughout the organization.
"We'll meet. We'll just do meetings, obviously, throughout Phase I, introducing our systems while we start to introduce our culture," Coen said, via Jaguars on SI. "The way that we're going to be, the way we're going to talk to each other, the way they're going to communicate with each other, how we're going to treat one another, that'll go hand in hand with the systems."
