Jaguars defender ranked among 32 best cornerbacks entering 2026 season

The Jacksonville Jaguars landed one of the league's best slot cornerbacks in 2025 when they signed Jourdan Lewis, who had spent the entirety of his career with the Dallas Cowboys before coming to Jacksonville.

He has excelled in the slot as a coverage defender and has also been a strong run defender throughout his career.

PFF's Dalton Wasserman recently ranked the NFL's top 32 cornerbacks, and Lewis still made the list, coming in at No. 21, despite having a relatively off year in 2025.

"Lewis has been one of the NFL’s more productive slot cornerbacks over the past two seasons in particular," Wasserman said. "Since the start of 2024, his 78.7 PFF coverage grade ranks 12th among cornerbacks who have played at least 400 coverage snaps. During that time, he’s amassed three interceptions, nine pass breakups and 44 total stops. A return to full health and an even more defined role in the slot should allow Lewis to have another productive season."

The 2025 season was cut short for Lewis due to a foot injury, but he still appeared in 12 games, and racked up 39 total tackles, 10 passes defensed, and two interceptions. He's also known to be a trusted leader in the locker room, is a physical, aggressive player, and has elite football IQ.

Lewis will be entering 2026 fully healthy, and his return has already provided a major boost to his position group during training camp. The cornerback room largely consists of young, emerging talent, and Lewis provides a stabilizing veteran presence, in addition to his skill and versatility.
