The Jacksonville Jaguars inked star edge rusher Travon Walker to a massive contract extension on Friday that secured him one of the top deals among all NFL players at his position.
Walker, who just wrapped up his fourth season in the league, signed a four-year, $110 million dollar deal that guarantees $77 million in total and $50 million at signing. The extension makes Walker, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the 12th-highest-paid edge rusher in the league at a yearly average of $27.5 million.
Walker was set to play next season on a fifth-year option on his contract before the extension, which would have guaranteed $15.196 million for the year. Walker has recorded 200 tackles (36 TFLs), 27.5 sacks, seven pass deflections, and three forced fumbles over the course of his four seasons in the NFL, making 63 starts and 60 appearances for the Jaguars.
The news came less than a week after Jaguars general manager James Gladstone announced the team had been involved in discussions about extensions for Walker, as well as tight end Brenton Strange and receiver Parker Washington. At that time, Gladstone said extensions were "probably within striking distance to see things come to light."
