Before the NFL draft arrives, let's take a position-by-position look at the Jacksonville Jaguars' current depth chart on the defensive side of the ball.
If you missed our preview of the Jaguars' offense, you can find that here.
While we know what the pressing needs often are, taking a 30,000-foot view of the entire roster can help us further decipher where other draft picks could be made, specifically ones where depth and/or competition are needed at specific positions.
The Jaguars will enter the 2025 NFL draft with 10 total selections--tied for the second-most among all teams, which provides them with ample flexibility.
Here is a look at where the roster currently stands on defense and where potential draft additions could be made.
This is a position that GM James Gladstone said he wanted to prioritize this offseason. And after not adding here in free agency, this is a position group where we should anticipate the Jaguars making at least two draft picks. As a collective unit, the Jaguars ranked 32nd in ESPN's pass rush win rate and 27th in run stop rate in 2024.
Not a pressing need here, but particularly with 10 draft picks, it's one the Jaguars could try to bolster their depth at with only five players on the roster currently. But looking ahead to 2026, Devin Lloyd is a free agent and Foyesade Oluokun is nearing his age-30 season. Don't forget, the draft is about planning ahead as well.
Adding Jourdan Lewis to this position group provided stability and helped address the biggest need, which is on the boundary, by allowing Jarrian Jones to bounce out there. However, the prudent move would be to have competition for Jones, not to mention that the overall depth can be elevated as well.
It's a similar story here as at cornerback. Eric Murray provides needed stability, but competition for the starting role next to him is needed, as is overall depth. Of note, it sounds like Murray will be the free safety for the Jaguars, so a strong safety may be the more specific role to fill.
