Jackson Koivun is making a late run to be named on the US Presidents Cup team.

Koivun won in what was only his third start as a professional two weeks ago at the 3M Open.

The 21-year-old has proven that he is more than good enough to compete at the very highest level of the game.

Jackson Koivun‘s maiden PGA Tour victory was made all the more impressive by the fact that world number one Scottie Scheffler was chasing him down on the back nine on Sunday.

Despite his inexperience in the professional game, Koivun is being tipped to make the US Presidents Cup team in September.

Brandt Snedeker – the captain of the US Presidents Cup team – recently spoke about Koivun’s chances of making the team.

“I’m not going to discredit a 21-year-old kid who’s played in, I don’t know, four or five events this year just because he’s been in college. I wouldn’t be doing the team the right service, or him the right service,” he said.

“If he goes out and plays great golf in the next four or five weeks and earns a spot and shows that he’s willing to be one of the 12 best players for us, I’d be dumb not to take a really good, hard look at him.”

Jackson Koivun comments on his Presidents Cup hopes

Koivun addressed the media in North Carolina this week ahead of the Wyndham Championship.

The 21-year-old was asked what he made of Snedeker’s comments about his chances of making the Presidents Cup team next month.

Yeah, I definitely hear it and I appreciate all the kind words people have to say about me, he replied.

I know there’s a lot of flutter about certain teams and things I might be able to accomplish.

But at the end of the day I like to tell myself good golf takes care of everything, so I can just kind of tune that out and just go enjoy being out here on the PGA TOUR. I should be able to accomplish some of my goals.

Koivun once again displayed his incredible maturity with this response.

However, he does have an underlying arrogance that is definitely needed at the very top of the game.

Behind closed doors he will almost certainly believe that he should be on the US Presidents Cup team in September.

Jackson Koivun recently said if he ‘expects’ Presidents Cup call-up

Koivun highlighted just how mature he is last week after his win at the 3M Open.

He was asked whether he is actually expecting to be named on the Presidents Cup team.

“I’ve heard some talk, a little bit about it, but I feel like I still have a lot to prove to get really into that talk, he said.

I’ve given myself a nice runway to maybe make it into the playoffs and keep performing well, so we’ll see further down the road.

That attitude will serve Jackson Koivun very well moving forward.

He doesn’t expect anything to be handed to him and is prepared to work incredibly hard to earn the success that we all know he is capable of achieving.
