The Chicago Bears made some changes at linebacker this offseason, including releasing Tremaine Edmunds and signing Devin Bush in free agency. But they also added a familiar face as depth in Jack Sanborn, who signed a one-year deal to return to Chicago.
Sanborn signed as an undrafted free agent with Chicago back in 2022, where he went on to serve as a key contributor in the Bears' linebacker corps. He spent the 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys, where he was reunited with former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus. Sanborn appeared in six games, including five starts, before landing on injured reserve.
So what brought Sanborn back to Chicago? It has everything to do with the winning culture that head coach Ben Johnson has instilled.
"I love it here in Chicago and being part of what [coach] Ben Johnson and [defensive coordinator] Dennis Allen have been building here and the success that they've had," Sanborn told ChicagoBears.com. "It's something I couldn't pass up, and I'm grateful that I'm able to come back here and help in any way I can."
During his time in the NFL, Sanborn has only ever played in Eberflus' defense, and he's eager to join Dennis Allen's defense, which is linebacker friendly and brings an aggressiveness with "the multiple looks that they show."
"It keeps offenses on their toes and at the same time sticks to the defensive philosophy as a whole and what they do best," Sanborn said.
There are a lot of names in the linebacker room, including Bush, T.J. Edwards, D'Marco Jackson, Ruben Hyppolite II and Noah Sewell. But Sanborn could very well get a chance to start this season with Edwards recovering from a fractured fibular suffered back in January.
