J.T. Poston’s fourth PGA Tour victory and his first top-10 finish since a tie for seventh in the 2025 RSM Classic didn’t get him inside the top 30 threshold of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup points race that will qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship.

But the Hickory, N.C., native took a big step in that direction, 82 of them, from 114th on the points list to 32nd when he won The Memorial on June 7.

Poston birdied the 18th hole of the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, to get into the playoff with another North Carolina native, Ryan Gerard, then parred the 18th against on the second hole of sudden death to win.

Before that victory, Poston's best finish this season was a tie for 21st at the Valero Texas Open.

The 700 FedEx Cup points Poston earned reflected the largest amount he collected in one tournament. He had never won a signature event and is still trying to win his first major championship.

Scottie Scheffler remains on top

The top three spots on the points list were unchanged with Scottie Scheffler tying for 12th at The Memorial to maintain his lead over Cameron Young, who tied for 46th. Matt Fitzpatrick stayed in third with a tie fro 36th.

Si Woo Kim (tied for 10th) jumped Collin Morikawa into fourth. Morikawa did not play because of a back injury. Rory McIlroy (tie for 12th) went from ninth to seventh and Tommy Fleetwood (tie for fourth) jumped rom 15th to 10th.

With the U.S. Open coming in two weeks at Shinnecock Hills, many of the big names on the FedEx Cup points list are taking this week off.

Nine players among the top 30 are in the field at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, led by Fitzpatrick, No. 5 Morikawa, No. 9 Jacob Bridgeman and No. 10 Fleetwood.

Also playing among the top 30 are Justin Rose (17), Alex Fitzpatrick (20), Sam Burns (23), Nicolai Hojgaard (24) and PGA champion Aaron Rai (28).

Fitzpatrick is the only player in the field who can catch Scheffler. Fitzpatrick is 294 points behind Scheffler and can reach No. 1 with a victory or solo second.
