One would imagine that Major League Baseball would love for Jacob Misiorowski to pitch in the upcoming All-Star Game for a second year in a row.

They’re going to have to take that desire up with the Milwaukee Brewers, though.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said before his team’s game July 1 that Misiorowski is scheduled for three more starts before the end of the first half July 12.

With Misiorowski slated to start July 2, some quick and easy math suggests Misiorowski would then pitch the final day before the break, which would most likely rule him out of pitching in the All-Star Game on July 14 in Philadelphia.

“Well, if [MLB] could give us an extra win then let me know,” Murphy said of the Brewers’ plans likely ruling out a Midsummer Classic inning in Philadelphia.

With the Brewers down to a five-man rotation for the time being, Misiorowski lines up to pitch July 7 during a doubleheader in St. Louis. While there’s a scenario in which the Brewers bring Logan Henderson back from the injured list in the ensuing days and a six-man rotation bumps Misiorowski off a third start before the break, that sounds unlikely.

“We’re trying to win games,” Murphy said. “I’m being honest. We’re just trying to win games. You see the way the Cubs are playing. You see the way our division is. … I ain’t worried about [other things]. We’re trying to win the game.”

Keeping Misiorowski, a candidate to start to the All-Star Game with his league-leading ERA, WHIP and strikeout total, out of the game would also put him in play for an earlier start coming out of the break.

Misiorowski is on pace to throw 193 innings, which would be a personal high – by far. A year ago, Misiorowski threw more than he ever has and still only reached 141 innings.

Given his heavy workload to date, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Milwaukee cut back on its usage of its ace in the second half.
