Is the best yet to come for Cubs’ Kevin Gausman? This MLB analyst weighs in appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
As the Chicago Cubs made their mark at the trade deadline this past Monday, one of the moves was dealing for starting pitcher Kevin Gausman, coming from the Toronto Blue Jays. Though Gausman comes to the Cubs amidst a disappointing season with the Blue Jays, this MLB insider makes the case that the best is yet to come for the veteran.
So far this season, Gausman has recorded a 4.38 ERA to go along with 127 strikeouts, a 1.29 WHIP, and a 5-10 record in 23 starts, which is a relatively pedestrian year for the 35-year-old. However, now with Chicago, Jon Morosi would say on MLB Network that with the defense of the Cubs and the new environment, Gausman will excel in the remaining games of the season.
“Kevin Gausman…he is going to benefit from that outstanding Cubs defense that we talked about during the course of this week. Gausman is so excited to be in that Wrigley environment and to pitch in front of that defense. He didn’t have a classic Gausman-type year, but I believe the best of his season is yet to come here over the final third,” Morosi said.

The hope for the Cubs is that they can get a Gausman who performed as he did in the other years with the Blue Jays, where he recorded a below-4.00 ERA and racked up a productive amount of strikeouts, as he led the MLB with 237 in 2023. At any rate, it remains to be seen if Gausman turns his season around with Chicago, as his debut comes on Friday night against the Kansas City Royals.
