The Cleveland Browns hiring former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their next head coach puts defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz's future in question.
Particularly with Schwartz being in play for the main job, would he want to stay on in Cleveland as defensive coordinator?
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter shared that Schwartz is still under contract with the Browns, and the team wants him to stay on in the same role. However, will Schwartz want that? Him being under contract will make it tricky for another team to hire him until Cleveland releases him from it.
If Schwartz wants to stay, it sounds like the job is his. However, that's not a given with Monken's hiring. If he wants to go, you have to imagine Cleveland would eventually relent and release him from his contract.
We'll see what happens next, as Schwartz staying on would be pivotal to a possibly quick turnaround in Cleveland.
