Duke has legitimate aspirations to capture the men's 2026 college basketball national title. With a team featuring potential future NBA superstar Cam Boozer, the top overall seed in the tournament looks like a bona fide juggernaut as it turns its attention to St John's and the Sweet 16 this Friday night.
Even better, it sounds like the Blue Devils might get some good injury news ahead of the huge matchup.
Key guard Caleb Foster, who broke his foot earlier this month, reportedly has an "outside shot" to play against St. John's, per CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein. This is a big deal because guard play is usually paramount this time of year. They are the organizing floor generals for all operations on the court. The Blue Devils will still be favored if Foster can't go, but they'll definitely be worse off for it.
In even better news, it sounds like Foster might actually be a game-time decision. Hoo boy. Foster being healthy enough to play would be huge for Duke in this situation.
That's probably an understatement:
We'll see how this situation develops for Foster and the championship contender Blue Devils. In the best-case scenario, if he still can't play, maybe they can survive another weekend of the tournament without him.
But Duke sounds optimistic about Foster's status and that's a great sign for them.
