The Seattle Mariners may make a decision later today on whether or not catcher Cal Raleigh will need some time on the injured list to recover from tightness he's been feeling on his right side.
Raleigh, who led the majors last season with 60 home runs, last played in a game on Friday, May 1, against the Kansas City Royals. He has been out of the lineup for the last three games and underwent an MRI on his side as the team looks to determine the extent of his injury.
Manager Dan Wilson told reporters before Monday's game that a decision will be "forthcoming in the next day or so."
Raleigh downplayed the severity in an interview Monday saying, "Everything is good."
He said he's feeling better as the days have progressed, and the team doesn't want to take any unnecessary risks this early in the season.
Raleigh is off to a slow start this season, hitting just .186 with seven homers and 18 RBIs in 33 games.
Mitch Garver and minor league call-up Jhonny Pereda have tag-teamed behind the plate in Raleigh's absence. That's something the Mariners didn't have to worry about last season, when Raleigh played in 159 of the team's 162 contests.
