Austria's time at the 2026 World Cup has come to an end after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Spain.

Spain was dominant from the jump against Austria. La Roja generated countless scoring opportunities throughout the contest, as their opponents struggled to contain Lamine Yamal and Spain's potent offense.

Austria was able to hang in the match for a while after conceding a goal to Mikel Oyarzabal, but once Pedro Porro scored in the 66th minute, it became clear the country would not be able to beat the pre-tournament favorites.

A final goal by Oyarzabal in the 89th minute clinched Austria's exit from the World Cup, and left the team still in search of an elusive knockout stage victory.

Austria finishes its 2026 World Cup having earned one win – a 3-1 victory over Jordan – in its opening match. That said, the team's most memorable match came in its final group stage contest against Algeria, during which it needed a stoppage-time equalizer to clinch passage to the round of 32.

Here's more to know about Austria's World Cup exit.
