STARKVILLE — Mississippi State baseball starting third baseman Ace Reese was not listed on the initial injury report for a three-game series against Vanderbilt.
The No. 6 Bulldogs (17-4, 1-2 SEC) are hosting the Commodores (13-9, 2-1) at Dudy Noble Field starting March 20 (7 p.m., SEC Network).
Reese exited MSU's 17-1 win against Jackson State on March 17 after hitting a foul ball of his left foot. It's the same foot that he had offseason toe surgery on.
Coach Brian O'Connor said after the game that MSU took him out as a precaution.
Reese was not listed on the initial injury report. A second report will release two hours before first pitch around 5 p.m.
Mississippi State typically announces its starting lineup one hour before first pitch.
Outfielder Aidan Teel was the only MSU player on the injury report. He was listed as probable.
Reese initially stayed in the game after getting hit by the foul ball and drew a walk. He advanced to second base on the next at-bat after Jackson State dropped a pop fly. Then, Reese was removed from the game.
"I just didn't want to take any chances with him," O'Connor said after the game. "I wanted to get ice on it right away. He's walking around fine, so I don't think that there's any problem with him at all."

Reese is batting .370 with six home runs, 31 RBIs and 26 runs. His 11 doubles as of March 19 are tied for the most in the SEC.
Reese is ranked as the No. 18 prospect in the 2026 MLB Draft by MLB.com.
The last Mississippi State non-pitcher to be picked in the first round was Justin Foscue in 2020.
