After a stellar 2025-26 regular season, Iowa women's basketball (26-6, 15-3 Big Ten) sophomore center Ava Heiden earned herself Associated Press All-American recognition as an Honorable Mention selection.
The 6-foot-4 native of Sherwood, Ore., led Iowa in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game on 64.7% shooting. Heiden also averaged 7.3 rebounds per game to rank second on the Hawkeyes. Heiden's 64.7% field goal shooting ranks second in the Big Ten and third nationally, and she becomes just the 10th player in program history to shoot 64.0% or better.
As the primary driver of the Hawkeyes' offense, Heiden has rapidly evolved into the dominant post player that Jan Jensen has been known to develop over her tenure at Iowa, such as Megan Gustafson, Monika Czinano and Addison O'Grady.
Heiden also earned USBWA All-American Honorable Mention honors on Tuesday, as part of the various All-American honors reveals over the past week.
She is also the first Hawkeye to earn AP All-American honors since Caitlin Clark secured a first-team All-American distinction in 2024.
Heiden and No. 2 seed Iowa begin NCAA Tournament play against No. 15 seed Fairleigh Dickinson (30-4, 18-0 Northeast Conference) on Saturday, March 21 at 3 p.m. CT, from Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The first-round matchup between the Hawkeyes and Knights will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
