Amid a dynamic sophomore campaign, Iowa women’s basketball center Ava Heiden has been named an Associated Press All-American honorable mention selection.
Through 32 games, Heiden is averaging 17.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 64% from the floor. That percentage ranks second in the Big Ten and third nationally. Heiden is the 10th player in program history to shoot 64% or better from the field.
She also leads all Power Four players in points per game improvement over the last two seasons and is third nationally in that category at +12.6 points per game. Heiden is the Hawkeyes’ first AP All-American pick since Caitlin Clark. In 10 of the last 13 seasons, the Hawkeyes have had at least one AP All-American selection.
Heiden and the No. 2 seed Hawkeyes (26-6) return to action on March 21 against No. 15 seed FDU in the NCAA Tournament’s opening round. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. CT inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
