The new era of college football sees players opting out of bowl games and, this year, even entire teams declining bowl invitations. Fortunately, for the Iowa Hawkeyes, bowl games are still special and continue to mean something to this team.
With a roster full of talent that will enter the NFL pipeline after this bowl game, the Hawkeyes could see players opt out to preserve their bodies for the draft or to get a head start on draft preparation. Rather, the Iowa Hawkeyes are anticipating a roster with no opt-outs and will be at full strength for the ReliaQuest Bowl against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
After finding out the bowl matchup, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz spoke with the media and offered a direct statement about the status of Iowa's roster for the bowl game.
"Every indication I have right now is our entire roster is ready to roll," Ferentz said to the media about potential bowl game opt-outs.
Iowa is a roster loaded with senior talent and a healthy crop of players who will be sure to have NFL aspirations. On the offensive side, Iowa will see quarterback Mark Gronowski, wide receivers Kaden Wetjen, Jacob Gill, and Sam Phillips, all seniors, play. The Hawkeyes will also be rolling with an offensive line trio of Beau Stephens, Logan Jones, and Gennings Dunker, all of whom will have an NFL shot.
Defensively, the Hawkeyes will be trotting out a dominant senior group consisting of Max Llewellyn, Aaron Graves, Ethan Hurkett, Jonah Pace, and Xavier Nwankpa.
