The Iowa basketball program is off to a great start in year one under Ben McCollum on the court, currently sitting with a 14-5 record. And the recruiting off the court is starting to hit its stride.

McCollum hit the transfer portal hard after being hired, bringing along a ton of guys with him from Drake. He wasn't able to recruit much in the high school realm for this year because of the timing of his hiring, but he's quickly amending that through his work on Iowa's future classes.

The Hawkeyes have one commit in the 2026 class in four-star forward Ethan Harris. They're in the running for a few more top-tier talents and have already offered a ton of talent in the 2027 class as well. McCollum hasn't stopped there, already beginning his work on the 2028 class by offering an intriguing three-star forward on Sunday.

Joey Kohnen took to X on Sunday night to announce that he's received an offer from McCollum and the Hawkeyes.

Kohnen is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound forward from Slinger, Wis., and currently plays for Slinger High School. This season with the Owls, as a sophomore, Kohnen is averaging 16.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. He's shooting 51.9% from the field and 29.2% from behind the arc, helping lead Slinger to a 12-3 record so far.

Even though he's a 2028 prospect, there's already a lot of excitement around Kohnen's potential. Iowa is the fourth program to offer the sophomore forward, joining Iowa State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. That offer list will only grow as Kohnen continues to play high school ball and get his name out there more.

McCollum and the Hawks are in the running for a lot of talented prospects over the next few years. Continued success on the court will help give Iowa an extra edge that could lead to landing a couple of those guys and keep the program going on an upward trajectory.
