Iowa basketball landed a big piece for its future on Thursday evening.
Four-star in-state forward Jaidyn Coon announced his commitment to Ben McCollum and the Hawkeyes. Out of Storm Lake, Coon chose the black and gold after a Tuesday visit to Iowa City. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 22.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for the Tornadoes during his senior season as Storm Lake finished 24-3 and reached the Class 3A state semifinals.
Rated as a four-star in the 247Sports composite rankings, Coon is regarded as the nation's 116th-ranked player overall, as the No. 44 small forward and as the No. 3 player in Iowa.
Coon opened his Instagram post by declaring that he was "STAYING HOME" with a pair of Hawkeye emojis.
"Thank you Lord for blessing me with an opportunity of a lifetime. I dreamed as a kid playing at the collegiate level. Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this process! GO HAWKS," Coon wrote in his announcement.
Coon joins fellow blue-chip prospect Ethan Harris, a power forward out of Washington, in the Hawkeyes' 2026 class. Harris has already signed with Iowa. A 6-foot-9 forward, Harris is ranked by 247Sports as the nation's No. 112 player overall, as the No. 17 power forward and as the No. 2 player out of Washington.
Coon was originally committed to Creighton, but he reopened his recruitment following the announcement that Greg McDermott was retiring.
