After Iowa basketball finally made a splash in the transfer portal through the commitment of former Illinois State combo guard, Ty'Reek Coleman, Hawkeye fans rushed to social media to express their excitment for the arrival of the 6-foot-2, 175-pound rising sophomore and how his presence could impact the team next season.
As a freshman last season for the Redbirds, Coleman was the team's third-leading scorer with an average of 10.0 points on 50.4% field goal shooting, 41.6% from 3-point range, and 70.2% from the free-throw line, to go along with 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest in 35 games played.

Waubonsie Valley graduate helped that high school have its best season in 2024, covered that season, in IL. Mature beyond his age. His playmaking will only rise and scoring will excel under McCollum.

Ty’Reek Coleman is going to surprise people. Ton of attributes that will translate well to Ben McCollum’s system. He also has three years to develop under McCollum. Good shooting splits, athleticism and smart player.
Underrated get.

Love the lineup versatility Coleman is going to bring.
A guy who can play as your primary and secondary ball handler, over 40% from three as a true freshman. Had some great showings in the NIT! https://t.co/4qbR795bS1

TyReek Coleman's most recent visit before choosing Iowa?
Nebraska.
The former Redbird spent two days in Lincoln before landing in Iowa City today.
The Cornhuskers can't seem to find a way to shake their rival, even in the offseason.

Personally, I think choosing to be the lead guard in Ben McCollum’s system is a very smart decision. https://t.co/IBEhEtqKzA

The last time Iowa had a Chicago PG, it made the Final Four. Aurora is close enough for me. https://t.co/XOoE0fDJSY

Tyreek Coleman stats vs a complete Auburn team in the NIT:
17 points
2 rebounds
2 assists
It appears as if he can hang in with the big dogs
Hawks got a good one.
