Despite ninth-seeded Iowa basketball (24-13, 10-10 Big Ten) falling just short of its first Final Four appearance since 1980, senior guard Bennett Stirtz was honored as a member of the South All-Region Team.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound native of Liberty, Mo., was the offensive engine for the Hawkeyes all season long and allowed for other teammates to get quality scoring opportunities by forcing defenses to overextend their coverage.
In Saturday's 71-59 loss against the Fighting Illini, Stirtz paced the Hawkeyes' offense with 24 points on 8-for-17 shooting, 4-for-11 from 3-point territory, and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line, while also posting three rebounds and three assists in a complete 40-minute performance.
Stirtz also poured in 20 points in the Hawkeyes' 77-71 Sweet 16 win over Nebraska (28-7, 15-5 Big Ten). In Iowa's four games, Stirtz averaged 18.3 points per game and knocked down 10 3-pointers.
Joining Stirtz on the South All-Region Team were a trio of Illinois stars, led by freshman guard and Most Outstanding Player Keaton Wagler, freshman forward David Mirkovic, and junior guard Andrej Stojakovic. Nebraska junior forward Pryce Sandfort rounded out the South All-Region Team.
In a remarkable stat that is a testament to his strength and endurance throughout the entire 2025-26 season, Stirtz played all 160 minutes of NCAA Tournament action for the Hawkeyes.
As Stirtz readies for the 2026 NBA draft, his impact on the program will not be forgotten, as he propelled the Hawkeyes far beyond national expectations and laid a foundation for head coach Ben McCollum and the program to build upon.
