The Miami Dolphins double-dipped at defensive linemen in the 2025 NFL draft when they took Maryland's Jordan Phillips with the No. 143 pick in the Round 5.

With the addition of Phillips, Miami's first three picks of the draft collectively weigh close to 1,000 pounds. That emphasis on size and power says plenty about the issues that the Dolphins identified as problems that needed correction in the offseason.

But the team's decision to take defensive linemen with two of its first three picks shouldn't have come as a surprise. While cornerback stood out as an egregious need that was ignored until Round 5, the Dolphins can still comb the free agent market for players with starting experience. The same can't be said about defensive linemen, as that market has been picked clean.

The Dolphins entered the draft with only two players -- Zach Sieler and Benito Jones -- who could reasonably be relied upon to play significant snaps in 2025. The other two defensive linemen under contract, Matt Dickerson and Neil Farrell, spent much of last year on the team's practice squad.

Phillips wasn't a productive player with the Terrapins, but he'll have every opportunity to compete for immediate snaps in the NFL.
