Insider Shoots Down Jaylen Brown Rumor That Came Out Of Nowhere originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Celtics have been one of the many teams linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo in trade rumors, and as a result, Jaylen Brown's name is being tossed around in rumors as well.
If the Celtics were to acquire the two-time MVP, they would have to basically have to part ways with Brown for salary reasons. However, reports suggest that the Milwaukee Bucks do not want to keep Brown and build around him. Rather, they would want to pass him along and get more assets. That means a third team would have to get involved in the trade.
On Sunday, a report from NBA insider Greg Afseth revealed that there were whispers about the Los Angeles Clippers trying to get involved in a potential deal with the Celtics and Bucks that would ship Jaylen Brown to Los Angeles.
"A potential multi-team trade framework making the rounds in league circles would bring Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics and send Jaylen Brown to the Los Angeles Clippers, with the Clippers’ No. 5 overall pick going to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the return, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal," wrote Afseth on Sunday.
Well, on Tuesday, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that, after he made some calls of his own, there is no truth to rumors about the Clippers trying to get Brown.
"I've made calls on that," Fischer said on a Bleacher Report livestream on Tuesday. "I have been told that that is not true. Los Angeles has not looked into any real avenue here at all. At this juncture, I've been told repeatedly that the Clippers have every intention to stick around at the No. 5 pick and make a selection."
While Afseth reported a potential framework making its way around league circles, Fischer seems confident in his research. Anything can happen, but a Brown to Los Angeles trade seems unlikely.
