Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2023 first-rounder Broderick Jones received an important injury update from The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo, who hinted at the team’s 2026 plans for the young offensive tackle.
According to DeFabo, Jones may start the season on injured reserve as he continues to recover from a neck injury that required surgery this offseason.
During the Steelers’ Week 12 matchup against the Chicago Bears, Jones suffered a neck injury that was initially reported as a “stinger,” but it turned out to be something much more serious. He missed the remainder of the 2025 season and underwent fusion surgery in March 2026.
With Jones’ injury being more significant than originally believed, the Steelers opted to decline his fifth-year option. Additionally, the setback also played into the Steelers’ decision to draft offensive tackle Max Iheanachor in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
