Insider: Celtics Might Have To Trade Jaylen Brown For '40 Cents On The Dollar' originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Celtics have reportedly been taking calls on Jaylen Brown, but they might have too high an asking price.
There are reports of multiple teams showing interest in Brown, but it seems like the Celtics are asking for too much in return. It makes sense, considering they've only ever made him available for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant in the past. This time, however, is the first time they're actively taking calls on him and listening with the intent to deal him.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, they may be forced to trade him for less than they want.
"I can't find a team right now that is willing at this moment to give up that kind of draft capital," Charania said on NBA Today on Monday. "It just becomes, are Brad Stevens and that front office fine trading away Jaylen Brown for potentially less than that? I had one GM say to me, '40 cents on the dollar.'"
The big question in all of this is whether Jaylen Brown wants to be traded. If he wants out, the Celtics lose a little bit of leverage and may be forced to deal him for less. According to Bill Simmons, Brown was acting like he was done in Boston while he was in France last week.
"The word on the street on Jaylen in France, and I know multiple people who were in his vicinity, is that he was acting like he's done in Boston, and that this is it. I don't think he's very happy with this," Simmons said on Monday on "The Bill Simmons Podcast."
