INDIAN RIVER — Even after a state quarterfinal defeat to Ishpeming in March, Chloe Robinson didn't want her last high school game to be the end of her basketball career.
In fact, the senior star forward — someone who fueled the Inland Lakes girls to the school’s first-ever regional basketball championship — believed it was just the beginning.

“I’ve always wanted to play (in college),” Robinson said. “I didn’t want my basketball career to end after my senior year, because I can’t think about not playing basketball.”
Shortly after her senior season ended, she was approached by Bay College, which eventually received a visit from Robinson and her father, Lewis, who’s also been a big part of her basketball development. Pleased with what the Escanaba college had to offer, Robinson was all in and now she’ll have a shot to make an enormous impact at the collegiate level just as she did in her four seasons with the Bulldogs.
Just hours after leading the Bulldogs to a third regional track and field title in four years, Robinson was in her home gymnasium to officially sign to play for Bay College on Saturday, May 16.
“Out of all the community colleges, I liked (Bay College) the best,” Robinson said. “The coach, he has good goals, and he’s sent numerous players to play (Division 1 and Division 2), and so his goal is to shape us up over the next two years and ship us off to a four-year (school), so that’s my plan.”
Robinson joins Bay College following a senior campaign where she averaged 13 points and seven rebounds, which helped her secure all-state honors for a second consecutive season. Milestone-wise, Robinson became the eighth player in Inland Lakes history to reach 1,000 career points.
During her four years with the Bulldogs, Robinson finished with a record of 81-22 with four district titles, a regional crown and a Ski Valley championship, something her coach of the last four years pointed out.
“She is the most decorated basketball player in our school's history, boys or girls,” Inland Lakes coach Daryl Vizina said. “She’s probably been the top player on our team for three out of four years, so she wasn't just on the team — she was the person on the team. You add all her accolades up and she's probably at the very top of basketball players to come through the school.”

While people see Robinson as a star on the court during games, Vizina said it’s her leadership that was a crucial part to Inland Lakes' basketball success throughout the years.
“She doesn’t complain or whine — she plays hard,” Vizina said. “There’s no drama. She doesn’t have issues with teammates. She shows up, she does her work, she gives it maximum effort. There’s talk about the two things that you can control — your effort and your attitude — and no one’s ever questioned either of those in regard to Chloe. She’s just a wonderful young girl and she’s got a bright future.”
With her time at Inland Lakes almost complete, she thanked the program for helping her thrive.
“I wouldn’t be here without my coaches and the teammates that just pushed me to become a better player,” Robinson said. “I'll definitely miss (Vizina) a lot. I’ll miss the environment in our practices."
Robinson said she intends to major in psychology and work to become a child psychiatrist in college.
