The Indianapolis Colts have made it official. The team has signed quarterback Phillip Rivers to the practice squad.

Rivers joins the Colts as they navigate numerous injuries at the quarterback position.

Daniel Jones was placed on injured reserve with an Achilles injury. Riley Leonard's status for Sunday's game against Seattle is up in the air as he navigates a knee injury, while Anthony Richardson remains on injured reserve.

Rivers last played during the 2020 season when he was the Colts' quarterback. This was the last time that the Colts made the playoffs as well.

That season, he started all 16 games and led Indianapolis to an 11-5 record, completing 68% of his passes for 4,169 yards with 24 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.

Rivers was the fourth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft. He is an eight-time Pro Bowler and won the 2013 Comeback Player of the Year award.

He is currently a semifinalist for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, "Before the Colts can determine how soon Philip Rivers can play, they have to see how he feels and practices Wednesday and Thursday. But there is this: Rivers has played in this offense his entire career, so it is expected to be more of a physical question than a mental one."
