Mick Schumacher was named the 2026 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year on Monday, one day after his 18th-place finish at the 110th annual Indianapolis 500. He received a $50,000 bonus for the award, earning a total of $218,000 for his appearance in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

Schumacher is the son of Michael Schumacher, a seven-time world champion Formula 1 driver. Like his father, Mick was also a regular in the European formula racing scene for years. After winning championships in Formula 3 and Formula 2, he spent time racing in Formula 1 before making the jump to IndyCar.

The 27-year-old Swiss native had the top finish by a rookie — but showed promise, spending time in the top 10. Through seven IndyCar series starts, Schumacher sits at 24th in the IndyCar Series driver rankings with 66 points.
