Lamar Wilkerson was known as a knockdown shooter in college, but the Indiana guard is aiming to showcase his defense in workouts ahead of the 2026 NBA draft.
Wilkerson was an All-Big Ten second-team selection, averaging 20.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and one steal while shooting 37.8% from 3-point range. He ranked 18th in the country in scoring average, which was the highest by a Hoosier since Eric Gordon (2007-08).
The 24-year-old was one of six players with multiple 40-point outings this past season, including a career-high 44-point performance on Dec. 9. He knocked down a program record 10 3-pointers in that outing, the most by any Big Ten player in a game last season.
"Where I've been playing, I've always been labeled as a scorer, but I'm trying to be a two-way playmaker," Wilkerson said Monday after working out for the Golden State Warriors. "So, that is what I'm trying to get better at."
Wilkerson was among the 44 prospects who competed in the G League combine last month, averaging 6.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in two scrimmage games. He also shot 18-for-25 in the 3-point star drill and recorded a 34-inch max vertical jump.
The former JUCO standout at Three Rivers (Missouri) is considered a potential second-round pick this year because of his shooting and finishing. As he mentioned, he is also looking to showcase other aspects of his game in team workouts, such as his defense.
Wilkerson said his visit with the Warriors was his fourth workout so far, while he estimated he has 8-9 remaining before the two-night draft on June 23-24. He views those workouts as a tremendous opportunity to prove himself at the next level.
"I'm an everyday guy," Wilkerson said. "I bring energy on both sides of the ball and, of course, the reason they got me here is shooting the ball and being able to make shots. Continuing to be me, but also incorporating the stuff that teams want to see."
