INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever are adding a two-time WNBA champion to their depth.
The Fever announced Monday that they have signed Mercedes Russell, a 6-foot-6 center, after they were granted a season-ending injury exception with Damiris Dantas' meniscus surgery.
Russell is an eight-year WNBA veteran, joining the league as the No. 22 pick in the 2018 draft to the New York Liberty. New York waived Russell just two games into the 2018 season, but she was picked up by Seattle and won a WNBA championship with the Storm in her rookie season.
She ended up spending six seasons in Seattle from 2018-24, winning another championship with the Storm in 2020. She signed with Los Angeles in the 2025 season, but only played 20 games before she was waived.

Russell will not only be a veteran voice in the locker room for the rest of the season, but also provide some crucial depth behind Aliyah Boston in the frontcourt. Russell has averaged 4.6 points and 3.8 rebounds over her career.
