Stephanie White says the Indiana Fever may keep listing Caitlin Clark as probable to avoid another injury-report issue with the WNBA.

The explanation sounds strange because probable usually suggests a real game-status concern. In this case, White framed it as a way to maintain clarity with league policy after last week’s controversy.

That makes the move look less like a pure medical update and more like protective roster-status management after the Fever were warned.

Stephanie White says Indiana Fever will keep Caitlin Clark probable for league clarity

In a recent Chloe Peterson clip, White explained why Clark’s name may keep appearing on the injury report even when Indiana expects her to play.

“I think the most important thing is, while we hope what happened last week doesn’t happen again. Just to make sure that there’s clarity and no issues with league policy,” White said.

She added, “I think that we will [list Clark as probable]. You can expect to see it probable going forward.”

That answer points directly back to the Fever’s earlier mistake. Clark was ruled out against the Portland Fire with back soreness after not previously appearing on the injury report, which led the WNBA to issue Indiana an official warning.

So now the Fever appear to be choosing the safest possible designation. If Clark has any lingering issue, even one the team believes will not keep her out, probable gives Indiana cover under league rules.

That is where the manipulation angle comes in. The Fever are not necessarily manipulating Clark’s health status, but they are clearly managing the public and league-facing version of it more carefully.

After the Portland controversy, listing Clark as probable repeatedly can prevent another late-scratch problem while keeping the team inside injury-report expectations.

The drawback is that it creates confusion for fans. Clark being listed as probable can sound like a new concern, even if the Fever are mostly trying to avoid another policy issue.

That is why White’s wording matters. She did not say Clark is expected to be limited every game. She said Indiana wants clarity and no issues with league policy.

For the Fever, this is now about staying compliant. For everyone else, it means Clark’s probable tag may become normal until the team feels completely clear of another injury-report controversy.
