This is an amazing find!
And I believe you're correct that it is live. I see mics on the cabs and the drums plus Bowie's vocal is locked to picture. That was very rare back then because it was much more difficult to produce live audio mixes like that and look good for TV. Bandstand, Soul Train, and others almost always played to track. Half the time they didn't even attach cords to the mics and guitars! LOL
