Tofiq Musayev has a new opponent for Seattle and it's a big jump in name recognition.

With Samuel Sanches out of UFC Fight Night 271, Musayev (22-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is now expected to take on Ignacio Bahamondes (17-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) in a lightweight bout. Both fighters have accepted the bout with paperwork expected to be signed in the coming days. The event takes place March 28 at Climate Pledge Arena.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking being finalized but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Musayev, 36, rose to international fame through his 2019 run in RIZIN during which he won the promotion's lightweight tournament. He later signed with Bellator where he went 1-1 before the promotion's absorption by PFL. Musayev returned to RIZIN and won two fights before he was signed by the UFC.

In June, Musayev made his UFC debut but was submitted by Myktybek Orolbai in Round 1. Orolbai came into fight week heavy, so the promotion moved the bout up 10 pounds. The loss still stung for Musayev, who hade the rare opportunity to fight in his native Azerbaijan.

Bahamondes, 28, aims to bounce back from a loss to Rafael Fiziev on that same card. The unanimous decision defeat snapped a three-fight winning streak that included first-round finishes of Christos Giagos, Manuel Torres, and Jalin Turner in succession.

The updated UFC Fight Night 271 lineup includes:

  • Israel Adesanya vs. Joe Pyfer
  • Alexa Grasso vs. Maycee Barber
  • Marcin Tybura vs. TBA
  • Lance Gibson Jr. vs. Chase Hooper
  • Bruno Lopes vs. Navajo Stirling
  • Terrance McKinney vs. Kyle Nelson
  • Gabriella Fernandes vs. Casey O'Neill
  • Yousri Belgaroui vs. Mansur Abdul-Malik
  • Marcio Barbosa vs. Kangjie Zhu
  • Lerryan Douglas vs. Julian Erosa
  • Michael Chiesa vs. Carlston Harris
  • Bruna Brasil vs. Alexia Thainara
