Four of the Hurricanes’ top players from the late 1990s and early 2000s will get inducted into UM’s Ring of Honor at Hard Rock Stadium this year.
Quarterback Ken Dorsey, wide receiver Andre Johnson, offensive lineman Bryant McKinnie and linebacker Dan Morgan earned the honor, Miami announced Friday. They will be formally inducted at halftime of Miami’s game against Stanford on Oct. 25 at Hard Rock Stadium.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ken, Andre, Bryant and Dan into the Ring of Honor,” UM athletic director Dan Radakovich said in a press release. “This incredible quartet of Canes competed during one of Miami’s most dominant stretches and features three national champions, three first-round draft picks and seven national player award winners.
“All four men are great ambassadors for the University of Miami, and we are looking forward to honoring them on October 25.”
Dorsey won a national title with the Hurricanes in 2001 and earned a 38-2 record as a starter. He played at UM from 1999-2002, holds the program record for passing touchdowns (86) and is second all-time in passing yards (9,565). Dorsey was a Heisman Trophy finalist and won the Maxwell Award in 2001.
Dorsey, who was inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame in 2013, spent six seasons playing in the NFL. He is currently the passing game specialist for the Dallas Cowboys.
Johnson, a Miami native, played for the Hurricanes from 2000-02, racking up 92 career catches for 1,831 yards and 20 touchdowns. As a junior in 2002, Johnson had 52 catches for 1,092 yards and nine touchdowns. His 20 touchdown catches is tied for fifth in program history. Johnson was inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
The Houston Texans picked Johnson third in the 2003 draft, and he went on to haul in 1,062 career catches for 14,185 yards and 70 touchdowns. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024.
McKinnie transferred to Miami before the 2000 season and anchored the line. He did not allow a sack at left tackle over his two seasons with the Hurricanes. McKinnie was a two-time All-American and won the Outland Trophy in 2001. He was picked for the UM Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
McKinnie went seventh in the 2002 draft, and he played 179 games in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.
Morgan was a four-year starter for Miami from 1997-2000. The standout linebacker is UM’s career tackles leader, making 532 tackles during his Hurricanes tenure. He is the only Miami player with 100 tackles in each of his four seasons. Morgan was picked as an All-American in 2000, and he was the first player to ever sweep the Bednarik, Butkus and Lombardi Awards. Morgan was inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
The Carolina Panthers selected Morgan with the 11th pick in the 2001 NFL draft, and he played nine seasons with the NFL. He is currently the Panthers’ general manager.
