Miami coach Jai Lucas continued filling out his 2026-27 roster on Tuesday, adding a national champion to the team.
Michigan guard L.J. Cason committed to Miami, announcing his decision on social media.
“Coming back to the crib,” Cason wrote on Instagram.
However, Cason may not play for the Hurricanes this year.
Cason suffered a torn ACL in February and had surgery after the season, according to The Detroit News. How quickly Cason recovers from surgery will determine whether he redshirts or gets back on the court during the 2026-27 season.
Cason, a rising junior, spent two seasons at Michigan. He played in 28 games last year, coming off the bench in all of them. He averaged 8.4 points, 2.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 18.6 minutes. He shot 40.2 percent from three last season. Cason helped the Wolverines win last season’s national title.
Cason, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound guard, is from Lakeland. He originally committed to play for coach Dusty May while May was FAU’s coach. When May took the Michigan job, Cason flipped his commitment to the Wolverines. May left Michigan to become the new Dallas Mavericks coach.
Miami has added seven transfers this offseason. The Hurricanes return four players from last year’s team: Dante Allen, Marcus Allen and Shelton Henderson
