FOXBOROUGH – A leader and security blanket for multiple Patriots quarterbacks, Hunter Henry was always a good fit in New England.
Now, the veteran tight end will stick around the area even longer.
According to the NFL Network, Henry has agreed to a new 2-year contract extension with the Patriots. ESPN reports that it’s a $16 million deal worth up to $20 million with $14.5 million in guaranteed money.

The 31-year-old entered this season in the final year of his contract and now could remain in New England for the remainder of his NFL career.
Following the departure of Rob Gronkowski in 2020, the Patriots struggled to find a quality starting tight end. Henry signed with the Patriots as a marquee free agent in 2021 and instantly provided stability at the position. In that first year, Henry helped then-rookie quarterback Mac Jones, finishing with 50 receptions, 603 yards and nine touchdowns.
Although the Patriots organization struggled in the years following the departure of Tom Brady, Henry remained one constant for the offense.
A leader and three-time captain, Henry has caught 259 passes for 2,973 yards and 26 touchdowns for the Patriots over the last five seasons. When the Patriots drafted Drake Maye in 2024, Henry once again became a security blanket for the quarterback on the field.
In 2024, he finished with 66 receptions, 674 yards and two touchdowns. Last year, at age 31, Henry had one of the best seasons of his 10-year NFL career, finishing with 60 receptions, a career-best 768 yards and seven touchdowns.
Last season, Henry was also named the team’s 2025 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award winner, which recognizes players who excel on the field and demonstrate a commitment to making a positive impact beyond the game.
This offseason, the Patriots revamped their tight end room. The team signed blocking tight end Julian Hill in free agency and drafted Eli Raridon in the third round. After Hill suffered a season-ending injury, undrafted rookie Tanner Arkin has been the team’s top blocking tight end in training camp.
With two rookies on the roster at the position, Henry will once again become the focus for the Patriots at tight end.
